Chocolate Brie Panini

Chocolate Brie Panini

I remember reading Giada De Laurentis’ cookbook and coming across this chocolate brie panini and thinking, “What in the world?! Chocolate and cheese together??”. If this was any other cookbook, I probably wouldn’t have tried this recipe. BUT, it was Giada’s, and everything she makes is DELICIOUS. I have made dozens of her recipes and loved every single one of them. I was convinced to give this sandwich a try. Especially since she raved about how this was one of her favorite sandwiches in the world. Up untill this point, I have never even tried brie cheese, so I was in for a surprise. I had to make a special grocery trip to buy the sourdough, brie, and the dark chocolate (ingredients that I don’t usually have on hand). but I was glad that I did.

From the first bite, this chocolate brie panini became one of my favorite sandwiches. It tastes like a very decadent treat that you would find in a high end Parisian bistro but it’s so easy to make yourself and only takes a couple minutes. The bread comes out perfectly crispy on the outside and the cheese and chocolate both melt together to make an irresistible savory sweet, creamy filling that pairs perfectly with the sourdough bread. I can go on and on about how delicious this chocolate brie panini is, but truth is, until you try it for yourself, you will probably find it very weird.

Ingredients for Chocolate Brie Panini:

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons brie cheese, softened
  • 3 blocks dark chocolate

Flip bread over to the other side and spread 2 tablespoons of the softened brie.

Top your brie off with a couple blocks of your favorite chocolate. I love how dark chocolate or even bittersweet chocolate pair with the tanginess of the brie but you can also use semisweet or even milk chocolate if that’s your chocolate preference.

Close your sandwich with your second slice of bread (butter side up) and place inside a hot panini press or grill. You can also do this on the stove in a skillet if you don’t own a panini/sandwich press. Simply heat your skillet to medium, place sandwich butter side down and place something heavy on top like another pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes and flip.

Remove the sandwich from the press when both cheese and chocolate have fully melted and sandwich is a golden brown color on top. Slice in half and indulge.

Instead of chocolate, can Nutella be used????😍

Nata, I haven’t tried it with Nutella but it sounds delicious! The only problem I can anticipate is that it might get a little runny so maybe refrigerate your sandwich for 10-15 minutes before you put it in the sandwich press. Let me know how it turns out!
